Metallic taste with nitroimidazoles (4)
***********

As given here by Sukhpreet of NIPER, ornidazole is used in smaller doses and hence has less metallic taste in comparison to metronidazole.
(In case of amoebiasis, metronidazole 400 to 800 mg TID, ornidazole 500mg TID and in amoebic dysentery, metronidazole 1.5-2.5 g OD, ornidazole 1.5 g OD)

But do you really feel that 500mg as against 400-800 both TID to treat amoebiasis or 1.5-2.5 g OD Vs 1.5 g OD to treat amoebic dysentery are different in quantity? I mean these doses are almost equivalent in units, then why more metallic taste being felt by patient while taking metronidazole?
