Teaching Pharmacology and Therapeutics (6)
***********

Dear Dr. Patwardhan,

I agree with the contents of your mail. Prescribing physicians getting attracted with the different types of incentive offered by Pharmaceutical companies aggressive marketing is known globally. Thinking that it can be completely eradicated will be asking too much and will be difficult.

More important is, what we can do, and what is doable.

We have started organizing meeting/symposia in different hospitals
(Govt. and Private) on on issues that the common practitioners face.

Some of the topics covered/to be covered are:

*Rational Use of antibiotics
*Vitamins: how much we need
*Drug and drug food interactions
*Common prescription errors
*Medication errors that can cost life

Many can be added.

Even though it was a beginning of the series, the meetings were very well
attended. Meeting at Rockland Hospital was a appreciated by all doctors and its management. They requested for frequent such interactions.

In association with Delhi Medical Association, we have planned to have such
meetings in different hospitals on Saturdays for two hours. Dr. A.K Agrawal
President Delhi Medical Council is very positive and is considering the CME
credits for doctors who attend.

What is needed:

*A team of good an convincing communicators.
*Such meetings can be organised in all the cities.
*If a group of enthusiastic Pharmacologists and Physicians can be formed it
will be great.
*Big hospitals/Institutions will be happy to host these educative activities for their doctors.
*Seniors like Prof Ranjit Roy Chaudhury will be very happy to help in this
endeavour and can guide.

Together we can do it, and must do it.

Warm regards,

Y.K.Gupta
