Teaching Pharmacology and Therapeutics (2)
***********

Dear Manjula,

This is in response to your letter dated June2, on Teaching Pharmacology and Therapeutics. I am very glad that youngsters like you are taking interest in this very important lacuna in our teaching programme. I would suggest that you see some of the back numbers of Indian Journal of Pharmacology and you would come across articles on this topic.

Recently a worshop- IPS SOUTHERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE-2006 was organized at Belgium entitled Training of Trainers: Workshop on the Integrating Clinical Pharmacology into UG curriculum which was sponsored by WHO. I would suggest that you please get in touch with Prof. Gitanjali, Department of Pharmacology, JIPMER, Pondicherry, alternately log on to the web site www.ijp-online.com

You would be pleased to know that there already exists a group of young, enthusiastic group who are trying to introduce better and innovative methods of teaching.

I have been a member of the team involved in developing a PBL PROGRAM -- executing and assessing the students at CMMS, Arabian Gulf University ,Bahrain for 18 years, 1984-2002. I think people like you who have been educated at McMasters University should come forward and promote PBL which unfortunately is not followed in toto in any medical school in India. I wonder whether you saw my letter to Dr. Sunita Mittal written a couple of days back on this subject.

All good wishes.

Sincerely,

Prof. V.S.Mathur, MD,D.Phil(Oxon)FAMS
formerly Chairman, Department of Pharmacol. & Therapeutics

CMMS, Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain, Arabian Gulf
