Revived India-Drug (9)
***********

Dear Professor Chaudhury,

Thank you very much for an opportunity to contribute to the India-Drug Network. It is an honor to be a member.

Sir, being a representative from the world of pharmacists, I have many issues to discuss.

Few important issues which come to mind immediately are:

**Too many brands, widely ranging in price, for the same drug.
Consumers being confused always ?can I buy a cheaper one, will it be effcective?? The pharmacists at the counter can have hardly any answer.(Who knows about the bioavailability, quality??)

**Consumer Education about the correct use of medicines.
The recent experiment that we did in Mumbai, through retail pharmacists, has shown encouraging results & consumers have shown lot of interest in knowing about their medicines.

**Widespread TB
Wrong, incomplete prescriptions (in private sector) not following the RNTCP & many more problems have been realized because of recent TB project in Mumbai. We have discussed this with State TB & Mumbai TB office.

**Some Difficulty in training the pharmacists for RDU of antibiotics because of various reasons
(After attending, PRUDC Course at IIHMR in 2004, we have tried to seek every possibility of conveying the concept of RDU to the medical professionals , pharmacists & pharmacy students)

Sir, thank you once more for this opportunity. Kindly excuse the long mail.

With best regards,

Manjiri Gharat
