Revived India-Drug: Welcome from Professor Ranjit Roy Chaudhury
National Professor in Pharmacology and
Patron, Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD)
************

I would like to welcome you as a participant of the India-Drug Network and look forward to interaction between subscribers to the network. I know that each of you have rich experience in the different aspects which go to make up the chain from production, quality assurance, enhanced access, rational prescribing and proper use of medicines. Many a time you would have strong feelings about something but may have no avenue to express yourself or help to change policy. This network gives you such an opportunity. A growing network consisting of one thousand committed persons (our goal), all caring for the better use of medicines could make a big difference if we could all agree on some issues and recommend certain initiatives and interventions to be taken. The government and the policy makers taking policy decisions would, I assure you, welcome such recommendations.

We have learnt from our experience of running the India-Drug network which was initiated in 2002. This is indeed a rejuvenated network and its success depends on each one of you. Please do react to issues which would be brought to your attention by the moderators. Bring up issues which you think need to be discussed. There is no dearth of exciting and challenging issues today in the area of medicines in India today. The newspapers are full of such issues as affect the common person. Let us do our best to ensure that nobody needs to go without medicines or pay unnecessarily for an equally effective drug.

Once again ? a warm welcome to each of you!

Chair, International Clinical Epidemiology Network
