Announces
National Workshop on
Drug Policies, Access & Rational Use of Medicines
January 2-7, 2006, New Delhi
This is a one week long course being organized by DSPRUD. The drug management and training experience of DSPRUD, the broad experience in procurement and quality assurance and the policy leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO) in essential drug programmes, make this course a unique opportunity for participants to enhance their skills in managing drug supply on all levels.
Participants
Physicians, clinical pharmacologists, Senior pharmacist, senior health system managers, policy makers from governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Course Objectives
*Provide practical tools for implementing Programme on Essential Drugs and Rational Use of Drugs.
*Provide applications and skills using pharmaco-economic evaluation techniques and evidence based medicine.
*Techniques for managing drug supply.
Course design
This one-week course will consists of presentations, discussions, group activities and field visits. The course will be highly participatory and would facilitate interchange of skills and experience among course members.
Course content
Major topics include:
Drug policies, access to drugs and indicators for monitoring
and evaluation of drug policy
Regulation and legislation
Selection of essential drugs
Procurement and quality assurance issues
Drug financing issues
Pharmaco-economics in selection of drugs in EDL, Formularies & Treatment Guidelines.
Promoting rational use of drugs
Intervention studies to promote RUD
Role of Drug & Therapeutic Committees in promoting RUD
Patient and consumer education & evaluation of the programme
Research & human resource development
Impact of global treaties on pharmaceutical prices
Course dates
January 2-7, 2006.
Fees and costs
The organizers will bear the following costs:
Tuition fee including books and materials
Hotel accommodation (shared accommodation)
Three meals a day during the week and breakfast during the weekend
Coffee and tea during course breaks
Field trips
Travel costs to be borne by the participants. Each participant is requested to bring enough money to cover his or her personal expenses.

Course space is allocated as soon as the application is received. Enrollment for the course is limited to encourage maximum participant involvement. To ensure the participants space is officially reserved, DSPRUD must receive the completed application before November 20, 2005.
Selected candidates will be informed by November 30, 2005. Candidates must confirm their participation by December 7, 2005 otherwise course space will be allocated to next candidate in the waiting list.
