The information from Drugdex (Micromedex, USA) says that safety studies on
Oral/IV use of Ofloxacin in children below 18 yrs. is not yet available, so
not recommended. In fact, Quinolones should not be used in children to treat
infections as first line therapy. There are cases of high viral fevers with
secondary bacterial infections, which did not respond to any other safer
antibiotics but quinolones so these were tried out. But it should be only
the exceptional case. It is said that the syrups/suspensions of
Ciprofloxacin/Ofloxacin/Norfloxacin are made available for Geriatric
population who have difficulty in gulping tablets/capsules.

Safety and efficacy in children less than 18 years of age have not been
established (oral/IV)
Conjunctivitis, bacterial: (ophthalmic; 1 year of age and older) day 1 and
2, 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) every 2-4 hr; day 3-7, 1-2 drops 4 times a
day
Corneal ulcers: (ophthalmic; 1 year of age and older) day 1 and 2, 1-2 drops
in affected eye(s) every 30 minutes while awake; day 3-7, 1-2 drops every
hour while awake; day 7-9, 1-2 drops 4 times a day
Otitis externa: (otic solution; 6 months-13 years of age) 5 drops in
affected ear(s) once a day for 7 days; (13 years and older) 10 drops into
affected ear(s) once a day for 7 days
Otitis media, acute with tympanostomy tubes: (otic solution; 1-12 years of
age) 5 drops in affected ear(s) twice a day for 10 days
Otitis media, chronic suppurative with perforated TM's: (otic solution; 12
years and older) 10 drops in affected ear(s) twice a day for 14 days.
