Dear Dr Weerasuriya,
It was interesting to read the details of the Letrozole controversy. In the end you have placed certain questions and I am trying to answer on the basis of my information.
Answer to Question No 1. Whenever a pharmaceutical company applies for approval of a new drug for release in the market, along with the application they do mention about the therapeutic indication for which the company is seeking permission.
Answer to Question No 2. It is not considered as illegal to use the drug for other indications but at the same time it is also not advised to use for other indications.
Answer to Question No 3. Doctors prescribe for other indications at their own risk. I do not think Medical Council has any authority to take action against such doctors.
Answer to Question No 4. As I understand, there is a Court Order that doctors practicing Ayurveda can not use allopathic medicines and vice versa.
Best wishes,
