Response to Pooled pharmaceutical procurement
---------------------------------------------
I would like to endorse the view point of Dr.Bapna that a central rate
contract would do a world of good to the country. Just like the
successes of Delhi state, Tamilnadu has tasted tremendous success by
the centralized pooled procurement system and also by the central
quality control system. I have been a primary health centre Medical
officer, not before long and my PHC had almost all the essential drugs
at every point of time. The budget allocated to each health institution
was most often found adequate and the stock out days had come down
dramatically. Separate Fuel allocation is also
given for lifting of drugs. Provision of essential drugs at good
quality satisfies patients and propels them to utilize the services
much more. This helps in better delivery of primary health care. When
few states could achieve this already, it means that such a system is
possible in this country and inexplicably other states do not want to
follow suit.
