Response to Pooled pharmaceutical procurement
------------------------------------------------
I think what we first need is
1) a Graded Essential Drug List for India, by which Essential Drug
Lists for various levels are created, and nationally approved/accepted.
2) An ordinance/order from the Central Health Ministry that only drugs
from these lists should be used in the respective public hospitals, and
prescription/uprocurement/utilisation of drugs not include in the lists
can be done ONLY through special procedures in specific cases, on a
case to case basis.
3) Training of pharmacists in procurement/pooled procurement
I feel, procurement at state level could be initiated, and each
state can then distribute to their respective hospitals, panchayats,
etc...
