Response to Drug Promotion in India
-------------------------------------

Dear Idrug participants,

I think it is a total failure of the regulatory authority. Who is
bothered about the consumer or the poor patient? Why did it grant
permission to the Company to manufacture and market such a dubious
product? While the manufacturer would be keen to make money why should
the regulatory authority be abdicating its right to check unscrupulous
parties from behaving the way they do? So unless the regulatory
authority is pulled up effectively, we shall continue to have such
products on the market. We had a similar situation with Disprin Plus
sometime back. Some of the State Drug Controllers are behaving in the
most irresponsible manner. I think it is high time the Centre takes
over licencing of manufacture also. Let the Drugs & Cosmetics Act get
amended suitably.
