Workshop-NIPER
-----------------

Dear Friends,

It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that, we (Dept. of
Pharmacology and Toxicology, NIPER, India) are organizing a workshop in
Pharmacology and Toxicology. All the concerned can participate in the
same.

The details workshop as follows:-

Workshop on DRUG DISCOVERY AND DEVELOPMENT IN NEW MILLENNIUMINTERFACING
WITH PHARMACOLOGICAL & TOXICOLOGICAL EXPERIMENTATION
February 26-29, 2004 at Department of Pharmacology and
ToxicologyNational Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research
(NIPER)(Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers)Sector-67,
S.A.S. Nagar-160 062, Punjab, India

THE WORKSHOP

Drug discovery and development is presently undergoing a paradigm
shift. The new paradigm which is based on target identification &
validation, robust assay systems and chemical and biological
informatics has provided powerful momentum to drug discovery and
development. Critical decision making
related to therapeutic targets, lead generation and optimization and
biological screening strategies to clinical trials is the prime factor
for successful drug discovery. Integration of such knowledge is the
order of the day to achieve enhanced productivity. Pharmaceutical
companies which are striving to technologies and platforms. It is
becoming clearer that considerable amount of money is lost on compounds
that fail late in the process because of their pharmacokinetic
properties and toxicity. Hence the toxicological screening should be
dropped in the beginning of discovery and developments. The four day
forum will provide students, researchers, managers and regulatory
authorities an insight in to the ways of in-depth understanding of the
different aspects of drug discovery and development. Workshop will
have lectures as well as demonstrations.

TOPICS OF DELIBERATIONS

Lectures: Changing trends in drug discovery
