Response to use of anti retroviral drugs in India
-------------------------------------------------------
Dear Dr. Roy Chaudhury,
In response to "Use of ARVs in India", it is suggested that the well
established treatment schedules / Standard treatment protocols be
offered at selected Institutional levels (rather than home based)
having adequate facilities to monitor the viral load (PCR) and CD4
counts supported by expert services, especially that of dermatology,
gastroenterology and neurology in order to ensure safety and
compliance. DOTS strategy may not be successful, as patient would
expect a high degree of confidentiality in availing the treatment for
HIV. In the first phase the Medical colleges be considered for
initiation and continuation of ARV treatment until required laboratory
and expert services support is established at district level.
