Response to Illegal drug trials in India
------------------------------------------
Thank you Dr. Gulati for this comprehensive reporting.
I am sure that many people would be shocked out of
complacency on reading this. Carrying it on MIMS would
reach a number of new practitioners and I hope this
will caution them against participating in
unauthorised trials.
This article raises a number of queries:
1. Is there an agency in India that should take
cognizance of such acts and take corrective action? If
so what is that agency - The DGCI, or te ICMR, the
health or Home ministry or what????????????????
2. What is the role of the public? Having come to know
of this atrocity, what can I as a caring citizen do?
Would one voice be heard in this wilderness?
3. Can we identify a collective voice? Can DSPRUD or
any other bidy file a PIL against the company that has
indulged in such an unethical practice?
India is a large market and multinationals should not
be allowed to take us for granted. Africa has shown
how drug companies can be made to think of the people
first -
I think this issue deserves a debate, and would be
interested in seeing the response of fellow readers.
