Trimula Reddy,

It is very important that patients are educated about the medicines
they are prescribed. There are two steps in patient education; (a) to
create awareness "in general" about the use of medicines, (b) education
on specific drugs. This is primarily the responsibility of prescribers
and persons who dispense medicines. One has to verbally educate patient
at the time of prescribing as well as at the time of dispensing. This
can be supplemented by distribution of Patient Information Leaflets
(PIL) at the time of dispensing of drugs prescribed to the patients.
We, at Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs, have made
an attempt to develop PIL for about 60 drugs. They have been tested and
compiled also in form of a small booklet. Soon this can be viewed on
web site
www.dsprud.org also. I hope you would find the information useful.

Secretary,
Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs
