Response to List of Emergency Medicines/Life Saving Drugs
--------------------------------------------------------
Dear Prof. Roy Chaudhury,
List given below doesn't appear to be realistic. All that we need at
the emergency OPD are the medicines that have to be given immediately.
These may be few and can be given free of cost as is being done at the
SMS Hospital,Jaipur. Once they are attended at the emergency, the
patient can be transferred to the specialty department where the other
medicines may be made available at respective department. For example
Antibiotics, Streptokinase,Calcium Chloride etc. may be made available
at the specialty department.
The drugs that are not prescribed but are frequently used, such as,
antiseptics and disinfectants, common dressings, oxygen, surgical
supplies have to be supplied by the hospital stores to the emergency.
It may be a good idea to do a survey about the medicines utilization at
some of the hospitals emergencies to have an idea about the practical
implications.
Kind regards,
JS Bapna
