[india-drug] Toxicity of nimesulide

Toxicity of nimesulide
------------------------

Many of the drugs discovered in Europe are not approved in USA and vice
versa. It is difficult to know as to why this happens. There is always
an effort to discard older medicines to introduce the newer ones which
are often many times more expensive.

We certainly need to have data on toxicity in Indian population before
taking the action.

Dear Dr Bapna,
Isn't the evidence about Nimesulide that you quote also a biased
evidence, in that ADRs get reported mainly from the Western
countries, and Nimesulide is yet to be approved in any of these
countries.
Comparatively, Paracetamol is widely used- and abused- and
obviously the ADRs would be much more prevalent as well as reported. Is
there a percentage ADR been worked out on the basis of sales or
consumption??
