Response to Toxicity of nimesulide
----------------------------------
Dear Pipasha,
I have read your reply in response to Dr. Bapna s E mail. You have
quoted me for 15-20% ADRs. My reply was not at all for nimesulide. I
had mentioned this in context of general ADRs due to NSAIDs. I am
quoting the figures from ARAMIS reports which has the following
message. The database from Arthritis Rheumatism and aging Medical
Information Systems (ARAMIS) indicate 25% of all adverse drug reactions
being attributed to NSAIDs induced toxicity (Singh, 2000). I agree with
Prof. Bapna and Prof. Dandiya that withdrawl of a drug should depend on
the evidence of ADRs in a particular country. Of course we need to
strengthen the Pharmacovigilance system in the country.
Thanks
With Regards
Dr. S.K.Gupta
