(Dear Idrug participants,
It would be a good idea if you could all come up with your opinions
whether we need to add on any other objectives to Idrug and how we can
promote the concept among health care professionals.
This invitation letter had been sent to 13 medical colleges to be put
up on the notice board. It was published in DIC newsletter. Could you
suggest any other method that may be adopted?
Many thanks????SS)
Objectives of Idrug
---------------------------
Invitation To Join The India-Drug Discussion Group
We are pleased to invite you to join a new electronic discussion group,
called INDIA-DRUG, a partnership between WHO/GENEVA, WHO/India
Essential Drugs Programme (EDP), and SATELLIFE (a non-profit
organization based in the USA). The goal of INDIA-DRUG is to link
health care professionals around India working in the field of the
Rational Use of Drugs to each other and to useful sources of
information.
INDIA-DRUG was started to support the work of WHO-India EDP, in
operation since 1997. The programme started in Delhi State, now covers
more than ten states, and the numbers are increasing. Programme
activities focus on rational selection of drugs, standard treatment
guidelines, pooled procurement of essential drugs for public hospitals
and rural facilities, and interventions to promote rational
prescribing. The programme is executed by the Delhi Society for the
Promotion of the Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD) with funding from the
WHO, and recently the World Bank. Programme activities are spreading
widely and the number of national experts involved increasing rapidly.
An electronic network is the obvious solution to facilitate contacts
between the groups working in the various states.
The INDIA-DRUG network will help you to know about on-going activities
regarding essential drugs in India. As a participant, you will be able
to:
*communicate with your colleagues on problems you face daily in
promoting rational prescribing in your institution
*learn about ongoing and planned activities by the Delhi Society and
WHO-EDP
activities in the various states
*find out about training opportunities and new publications. It will
also draw your attention to new publications by WHO and others, and to
new
additions to various web sites, such as the DSPRUD and WHO/Medicines
web sites. For example, most new WHO publications on essential drugs
are
available and can be downloaded free of charge from
<http://www.who.int/medicines>.
*announce training courses in your state and report on recent research
outcomes
All you need to take part in INDIA-DRUG is email. You do not need
special software to send or read messages. A moderator reviews all
email messages for relevance to maintain a lively and high-quality
discussion.
At this point, we are keen on expanding the pool of subscribers to
INDIA-DRUG. If you would like to join this discussion group, a free
service, please send an email message to india-drug@usa.healthnet.org
If you would like to check what has been happening since February 2002
when INDIA-DRUG started, please visit the website http://
www.essentialdrugs.org and select ?india-drug? to view the archived
messages.
