Pharmacovigilance in India

-------------------------

Dear Idrug Participants,

This is on behalf of Dr. Pipasha Biswas, who has joined our discussion
group recently. The discussion Dr. Pipasha is interested about is ADR
monitoring in India. W are all aware that the Indian Health Ministry is
trying to build an efficient national pharmacovigilance system in
India.

Dr. Pipasha been working in the area of pharmacovigilance and
pharmacoepidemiology in the UK for the last 10 years, and has increased
interest in this area with regard to India. Dr. Pipasha used to work
earlier with the Drug Safety Research Unit in the UK and also closely
work with the Medicines Controls Agency in the UK.

Dr. Pipasha is ready to help due to the earlier involvement in
establishing a similar system with databases in the UK and is ready to
share the knowledge and expertise to do something in India.
The I drug participants may kindly share their thoughts on this issue
especially with the latest discussions we have had regarding various
drugs not used in other countries or banned by them but being marketed
in India.

It would be indeed be a great opportunity if we are able to build up a
good and sound national pharmacovigilance system in India.

Thanks and best regards,
Sunitha
