Formation of Karnataka Society for Promotion of Rational use of drugs
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear India drug participants,

This is to share the good news that in Karnataka we now moving in the
direction of forming the Karnataka Society for Promotion of Rational
Use of Drugs.

These concepts have fallen into place in Karnataka since the inception
of Task Force on health and family Welfare , Government of Karnataka in
the year 2000. We involved all health care aspects in the
recommendation. The Chapter on Rational Drug Management (RUD) dealt
with all the important concepts of pooled procurement, quantification
of drugs, Standard Treatment Guidelines (STG), Essential Drugs List
(EDL) and most important being to establish Drugs and Therapeutic
Committees (DTC) in all hospitals in Karnataka.

The next stage was the formalization of the integrated Health policy
with Rational drug Policy for Karnataka.

Now, the key personnel involved with health care issues are forming
this Society which is focused in improving the access to medicines and
information for the public. Those of us involved in this endeavor have
promoted these concept by bringing out the first edition of STG and
EDL with the technical and financial help of DSPRUD under the India-
WHO Essential drugs program.

Kindly correspond through the I-drug and add valuable suggestions and
support.

Best Regards,

Dr. H. Sudarshan
Vigilance Director
Health, Education and Social Welfare
Government of Karnataka
