Wholesale and retail markups on essential drugs in developing countries
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
I am a public health student doing a project on the hidden costs of
procuring essential medicines. I am trying to find data on the range
of
markups that exist at two stages of the procurement process: 1) between
wholesale and retail and 2) between retail and patient/client (in the
latter, excluding dispensing fees).
Specifically, I am looking for the following information:
- In your country, are there wholesale or retail markups (or another
I'm
missing?)
- If yes, are the markups fixed or variable? If variable, how do they
vary?
- Are there different markups for public vs private purchasers?
I appreciate any data that you can provide. I will of course summarize
the findings and post to E-drug if there is interest. You can reach me
at llevison@bu.edu
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
