INDICES>Revision of WHO/EDL: What should be deleted?
----------------------------------------------------------
I wonder how many Indices members saw the following message from Phil
Whiffen. [reproduced below; WB]
I would really encourage INDICES members to ask for the list and to
send in your comments.
Who thinks that chloral hydrate, trimthoprim injection, folic acid
injection, reserpine injection still belong on the list?
This may also be a useful class excercise for anyone teaching a class
on
drug information. You could set your class an assignment to review the
evidence for having the fifty or so drugs on the WHO list. The deadline
is rather short so I hope that many centers will take up the challenge
and respond quickly.
Otherwise the WHO Model EDL will continue to get longer as nothing gets
kicked off!

E-drug: Updating the WHO essential medicine list
------------------------------------------------
Items are being considered for review at the next WHO Expert meeting in
March 2003. I have been asked by WHO to co-ordinate some of the work
and a list has been compiled of items which are considered to be of
doubtful efficacy, have safety concerns or do not appear on a number of
national essential drug lists. The list has been sent to a number of
people who have been involved with the project in the past and comments
are also invited from the wider e-drug list membership. If you would
like to comment on this list of some 50 items please email me at
phil.wiffen@pru.ox.ac.uk. I will then forward a Word document
electronically. The deadline for returns is August 10th 2002
