Boston University Center for International Health seeks candidates
For Pharmaceutical Policy Scientist
The Center for International Health (CIH) at the Boston University
School of Public Health is seeking a pharmaceutical scientist to join
our multidisciplinary applied research team. The candidate must have a
M.D. or doctoral level training (Dr.PH, DSc., Pharm.D., or Ph.D.) in a
health-related field and a thorough understanding of pharmaceutical
policy issues and applied research. Background in pharmaceutical
policy issues particularly antimicrobial resistance, HIV drug access
and use issues, malaria drug policy, and behavioral change
interventions to improve the use of medicines, preferably in developing
country settings, is highly preferred.
A record of conducting health research and/or an understanding of
Research methodology is highly desirable. Experience performing
community-based behavioral intervention research in a developing
country setting is highly preferred. Ability to work in a
multidisciplinary environment with clinical scientists, economists, and
behavioral researchers is essential. Familiarity with or willingness
to perform program implementation in developing countries is also
desirable and the candidate should have a very keen interest and
ability to raise independent funding. Depending on the teaching
background and interests of the candidate, opportunities for teaching
at the MPH level may be possible within the Department of International
Health.
This position, which will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor
level depending on experience, will be responsible for the technical
support of a selection of ongoing drug studies and public health
implementation programs in developing countries related to improving
the use of medicines at all levels of the health system. S/he plays a
leading role in the development of special activities for dissemination
of research results and encouraging policy reform. In addition to
providing technical support for the existing program, the
pharmaceutical scientist will be expected to develop new themes of
research and submit project proposals. He/she will act as
a technical resource in the review of new project proposals and
submitted manuscripts, and facilitates in workshops and conferences.
Develops policy direction of scientific themes in conjunction with
other members of the technical staff. During the initial eighteen
months of the appointment s/he will serve as the technical focal point
for the Second International Conference on Improving the Use of
Medicines (ICIUM II) Secretariat.
The successful candidate will serve as the liaison between CIH and
other
organizations (WHO/EDM, MSH/RPM Plus, Harvard Drug Policy Research
Group on the Joint Initiative on Improving the Use of Medicines
(JRIIUM).
Candidate must be willing to travel internationally 20-30% of the time.
Ability to speak Spanish is beneficial.
