Antiretroviral medicines in the EDL
-----------------------------------

Dear all,

One of the members in the Drug and Therapeutic Committee in Karnataka
has brought up the aspect of inclusion of antiretroviral medicines in
the EDL in Karnataka.

His point of view is being enclosed:
?We have omitted it from the list of EDL in the 1st edition. Why should
it not be included under the tertiary category? It should be made
available within hours to medical/paramedical personnel with h/o
accidental exposure. Is it not a good idea to store some of these in
the hospital for such purpose??

This has relevance to the 12th EDL released by WHO which has 325 active
substances, which include 12 ARVs and over 60 other essential medicines
for HIV-related care, including drugs against opportunistic infections.

Looking forward to the views of all the participants in this regard.

Best regards

Sunitha
