Response to EDL at PHC
-----------------------
Hello all,
I think this major departure from policy that health is a state
subject can be a double edged weapon. On the one hand, the centre
supplying the drugs is welcome; but on the other, there is the fear
that the medicines may not reach the PHCs in time.
You may remember that in the pre DOTS era, the centre was supposed to
supply the Anti Tb medicines and many districts complained that the
drugs never reached them in time .
Consequently, many PHCS had only one drug, often only INH or ethambutol
and were forced to resort to mono-therapy - which is worse than no
therapy at all. We are now paying the price in terms of drug
resistance. The centre and state kept blaming each other and the loser
was the patient.
Is there something that we as a community can do to prevent a
recurrence of this situation?
I would love to participate.
