Strategies for involving key stake holders for RUD
--------------------------------------------------

Dear India-drug network members,

The Orissa workshop on rational use of drugs at Cuttack on 7th March,
2002, was very successful. We have now received requests from
different organizations, medical institutions and pharmacy colleges for
support for holding workshops in rational use of drugs. Obviously,
there is awareness that these workshops help in better prescribing.

The issue I want to discuss with others in the network is why no state
government or other institution has taken the lead in providing any
resource for holding this type of workshop. I would also like members
in this network to suggest ways how we could translate interest and
awareness of the use of such workshops into commitment of financial
resources for holding them. If governments and medical colleges are
not willing to pay for these workshops how will they be held? An
organization such as ours can only support a small number of workshops
which can only be a model but cannot support workshops throughout the
country.

I hope that members of the network would think about this and react to
this issue.

With all good wishes,

Yours sincerely,
