Updates of India-WHO Essential Drugs Program from DSPRUD
---------------------------------------------------------

Dear India-drug participants,

I am very pleased to share with you the information that a highly
successful Pharmacoeconomics Course entitled "Evidence, Money and Drug
Selection" was held at New Delhi and Jaipur between 6th and 16th
February, 2002. This was an international course. We would be holding
a similar course next year for about 30 Indian participants. A brief
description of the course would be available on this network soon sent
to us by Dr. Raj Gulati.
You would also be interested to know that the U.P. Government together
with the Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD)
have prepared a list of Essential Drugs for the World Bank project in
U.P. and we are now preparing the Standard Treatment Guidelines. A
group consisting of Dr. Usha Gupta, Dr. Sangeeta Sharma, Dr. G.
Sachdev, Mrs. P. Dua and myself were there for this meeting. It was a
very exciting meeting and persons from K.G. Medical College, Sanjay
Gandhi Postgraduate Medical Institute, Lucknow and from INCLEN
Professor M.K. Mitra and Dr. Shally Awasthy, all helped in this
venture. The Government of U.P. were represented by Mr. D.S. Mishra,
Secretary Health and Mr. Sujit Banerji Principal Secretary Health. The
Essential Drugs List, Quantification of Drugs needed and Standard
Treatment Guidelines will be available by the end of May, 2002.
A group from our Society is visiting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack next week.
We would be holding a workshop on Rational Use of Drugs at the S.C.B.
Medical College, Cuttack and then presenting to the Government of
Orissa our findings regarding the programme in that state. Our team
consists of Mr. R. Parameswar, Dr. Usha Gupta, Dr. Sangeeta Sharma, Ms.
A. Banerji and myself and we would be there till 12th March, 2002.
Any person who would like to conduct similar workshops on rational use
of drugs should get in touch with us.
With all good wishes,
Yours sincerely,

PROF. RANJIT ROY CHAUDHURY
