TERMS OF REFERENCE
June 2003
INFORMATION OFFICER
Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
Based in: Geneva
Duration and time: Full time, starting September 2003
Reports to: Senior Editor
FUNCTIONS:
Write / edit campaign materials or manage their development. Coordinate the
production of press materials and act as press officer for specific
projects. Liaise with communications and policy / advocacy officers in the
18 MSF sections. Support website development.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development and production of campaign documents:
- Write / edit external campaign documents (e.g. policy papers, reports and
scientific papers). Alternatively manage the out-sourced development of
these documents.
- Write / edit internal campaign documents, such as background papers,
?Questions and Answers? documents for press officers, status reports, etc.
- Write / edit AccessNews, the external bi-annual campaign newsletter, and
manage its production and distribution.
- Create / edit presentations on various campaign-related topics.
Media:
In close cooperation with the campaign team:
- Coordinate the production of press materials and act as back-up
spokesperson as necessary.
- Write/edit press releases and op-eds for the wider network and
international press.
- Participate in and act as press officer for specific projects, including
international conferences and events.
Internal communications:
Coordinate internal communications on campaign issues by liaising with
communications and policy/advocacy staff in the 18 MSF sections.
Website development:
Work with the webmaster to develop and constantly update a dynamic
campaigning website.
Profile and qualifications:
University degree. English native speaker or equivalent. Very good French
skills, Spanish or other language(s) an asset. Excellent writing skills.
Work experience as public information or press officer preferable.
Experience in health communications or advocacy work. General computer
literacy.

DNDi seeks Executive Director and Director R&D
Executive Director and Director of Research & Development DNDi (Drugs
for Neglected Diseases initiative), Geneva
DNDi is a new not-for-profit initiative founded by an international
partnership of seven eminent public and private institutions. It aims to
organise the research and development of new drugs for neglected diseases
such as leishmaniasis, human African trypanosomiasis, and Chagas disease.
Working in close collaboration with developing countries, DNDi will achieve
its goals by using global networks of research facilities and by
strengthening research capabilities in areas where these diseases are
endemic.
The Executive Director, will be DNDi's strategic and management leader, as
well as its chief fundraiser and advocate. He or she will have significant
executive experience in the areas of global public health, pharmaceutical
research and development, and capacity-enhancement programmes in developing
countries.
The Director of Research & Development will be primarily responsible for
identifying, directing, and supervising all discovery and development
projects in the DNDi portfolio. He or she will have high-level scientific
qualifications and senior-level executive experience in managing drug
research and development in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
Both positions are based in Geneva and will entail considerable travel.
