Chers Collegues,
Nous allons tres prochainement debuter un essai clinique randomisé
multicentrique d'un traitement de courte duree de la tuberculose pulmonaire
(4 mois), qui se fera dans 5 pays d'Afrique, avec la collaboration de
plusieurs institutions europeennes. Cet essai est finance par la Commission
Europeenne. Pour la mise en place et la gestion de cet essai, nous cherchons
a recruter un "Clinical Research Officer" dont les taches sont decrites dans
le document joint. Nous cherchons un medecin (homme/femme) avec une solide
formation en epidemiologie et de preference une experience de recherche dans
les PED. Il/elle doit etre bi-lingue (anglais/francais). Le poste sera base
a Paris, avec de frequents voyages dans les sites impliques dans l'essai.

CLINICAL RESEARCH OFFICER (CRO)
for a phase III multicentre trial for the treatment of tuberculosis
We are seeking a Medical Doctor to take on the position of Clinical Research
Officer (CRO) in a Multicentre Randomized Controlled Trial.
The objective of the trial is to evaluate the clinical and bactericidal
efficacy of an ofloxacin-containing four-month combined regimen for the
treatment of pulmonary TB, in comparison with a standard 6-month
short-course regimen. The trial will be conducted in 5 African countries
(Bénin, Guinée Conakry, Kenya, Sénégal, South Africa), with the
collaboration of national TB control programmes and national Research
Institutes. Collaborators in Europe are the London School of Hygiene &
Tropical Medicine, St Georges Medical School in London, the Institute of
Tropical Medicine, Antwerpen and the Hopital de Garches, France. The trial
is funded by the European Commission and is coordinated by the IRD (Institut
de Recherche pour le Développement) in Dakar.
The tasks of the CRO are :
- to write the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the trial
- to visit each site, meet the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Clinical
Research Assistant (CRA), check the applicability of SOPs and organise the
trial procedures accordingly
- to train the CRAs for the implementation of the trial
- to ensure close supervision of trial implementation in each site
- to supervise the collection of data
- to ensure appropriate quality control of clinical and laboratory
procedures
- to undertake regular monitoring visits to each site (about twice a year)
to check
- documents (case report forms, informed consent forms, adverse events or
reactions forms, death registry)
- laboratory procedures
- conformity with good clinical practice (GCP)
- data collection
- to link with the institutions in Europe and in Africa involved in
laboratory procedures, data management and statistical analysis
- to produce regular progress reports to the Scientific Coordinator and the
Trial Steering Committee as required
The candidate must be a Medical Doctor, with a postgraduate qualification in
Epidemiology (MSc). Previous experience in clinical research, is desirable,
preferably in a developing country. He/she must be bilingual (English,
French), dynamic, with good communication and leadership skills, and be
flexible to travel frequently to trial sites and meetings. The salary is
between 31,000 to 36,000 ? net per annum, according to experience. The
selected candidate will be recruited as «Chargé de Mission », employed by
Assistance Publique?Hôpitaux de Paris. The position is based at the Hôpital
Raymond Poincaré, Université de Versailles, Garches (France), in the
Infectious and Tropical Diseases Unit, with frequent travels in Africa. The
appointment is initially from February 2003 to July 2005, with a possibility
to extend for 16 months.
