Giovanny,

Tengo informacion para ti. Aparece en ORGYN.com: Subcutaneous tocolysis
shows clinical and cost benefits. Source: Managed Care 2003; [early
online publication]

The benefits of subcutaneous administration of tocolytic drugs are
highlighted.

Continuous, subcutaneous tocolytic treatment may be both clinically
beneficial and cost-effective for prolonging gestation in pregnant women
with a history of recurrent preterm labor, research indicates.

The beta-adrenergic drug terbutaline is commonly used for tocolysis in
women at risk of preterm labor. However, "efficacy of oral terbutaline
is influenced by poor patient compliance and the development of
myometrial desensitization related to long-term, high-dose exposure,"
say Dr. Fung Lam (California-Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco, USA)
and co-authors.

They examined data on 558 women with singleton gestations and a history
of recurrent preterm labor, half of whom were treated with oral
tocolytics, while the remainder received continuous subcutaneous
terbutaline infusion.

The average gestational gain was significantly greater with subcutaneous
than oral tocolysis (28.4 days versus 19.8 days). Infants of women
receiving subcutaneous terbutaline also weighed more at delivery than
those from the oral tocolytic group. Furthermore, subcutaneous tocolysis
reduced overall costs by US$ 5,286 per pregnancy, in comparison with
oral tocolysis.

In conclusion, "we demonstrated continuous subcutaneous terbutaline to
be a cost-effective pharmacologic treatment option when compared to oral
tocolytics," the study authors write. They suggest that the improved
perinatal outcomes with subcutaneous administration may be related to
more precise dosing, and improved patient tolerance and compliance.

Personalmente, solo uso la Ritodrina antes de las 32 ss. Y prefiero
Isoxsuprina (aqui en el Peru se conoce como Dilator)
