===============================

2ND Asian Course on Problem-Based Pharmacotherapy Teaching
6 - 15 March 2003
Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Organised by Departments of Pharmacology & Family Medicine,
Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in collaboration
with Department of Essential Drugs and Medicine Policy, World
Health Organization, Geneva.

WELCOME MESSAGE

On behalf of the Steering Commitee, we are pleased to invite you to
participate in the Problem-based Pharmacotherapy Workshop on
Guide to Good Prescribing, scheduled for March 6-15, 2003 at
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital, Kuala Lumpur. This is the
2nd Asian Workshop, of which the 1st Workshop was conducted in
Manila in 2001.

Bad prescribing leads to ineffective and unsafe treatment,
prolongation of illness, harm to the patients and higher costs.
Medical students and new medical graduates are usually not very
clear about how to prescribe drugs rationally. Eventually, they will
copy their clinical teachers or existing treatment guidelines without
knowing or understanding why certain treatments are chosen.
Realizing this problem, Departments of Pharmacology and Family
Medicine, Medical Faculty, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in
collaboration with Department of Essential Drugs and Medicine
Policy, World Health Organization will be organizing a
Problem-based Pharmacotherapy Workshop which will focus on
good prescribing.

You are assured of a stimulating discussion and pleasant stay in
Malaysia. Looking forward to meeting you.

Yours sincerely,

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamsiah Jaarin,
Chairman,
Steering Committee
