E-DRUG: Returned medicines and drug donations (13)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Margaretha,
Thank you for raising this point: the role of the media. I have been
concerned about this since long. Whenever a disaster makes top news there
is usually mention of the needs as follows: food, clothes and medicines -
sometimes medicines even being mentioned in the first place. What people in
most cases need is clean water, shelter, food and specific medical care,
depending on the type of disaster (earthquake, flood, typhoon etc.). If the
phrasing could be changed to e.g. "medical care" it might prevent
people/groups from immediately sending drugs/medicines. I think it would be
possible to make the media understand this important difference, but whom
to address in the media world?
Best regards,
Christel
