Dear Colleagues
We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us and your colleagues for four days of education, enlightenment, entertainment, networking and convivial good fun!
The theme for the workshop is "Globalisation, Pharmacy and Medicines? and the aim is to explore everything from education and workforce issues to counterfeit drugs and internet sales. We especially invite critical perspectives and commentary.
The Programme Committee has come up with some suggestions for presentation topics that you might like to be thinking about (see below).
The University of Auckland extends a warm welcome for visitors to New Zealand to visit the School of Pharmacy en route to the Workshop in Queenstown. The School is co-located on the University's Grafton Campus with Medicine and Nursing, and is very close to the City Centre and 30 minutes taxi ride from the airport. There will be opportunities to see the School's facilities and interact with staff. If you want to stop over in Auckland, there's plenty to see and do, and we can advise where to stay. Contact one of the Auckland team for further information (j.shaw@auckland.ac.nz).
We invite pharmacists from all over the world to participate in the Workshop, to share their knowledge, meet up with old friends, make new friends, strengthen the social pharmacy network and to experience New Zealand's unique environmental, cultural and academic heritage. We will leave one afternoon free for you to explore Queenstown - the adventure capital of the world - and its environs. If bungy jumping, jet boat riding, white water rafting, hang gliding or skiing do not appeal then how about a cruise on the lake in the vintage steamship, TSS Earnslaw, or a tour of the popular Central Otago wineries, or just relax on the balcony of your 4-star hotel overlooking the lake and snow-capped mountains.
Please forward this message to anyone whom you think might be interested. Further conference information such as calls for workshop, oral presentation and poster abstracts, and venue, registration and programme details will be posted on the new Social Pharmacy website at http://socialpharmacy.otago.ac.nz . This is an interactive website that allows you to enter your own information including research interests, contact details and course materials for sharing with social pharmacy colleagues.
We are confident that your trip to New Zealand will be unforgettable and we look forward to seeing you in Queenstown in July 2008.
Kind regards
Kath Ryan, John Shaw, Janie Sheridan and Fiona Kelly
