E-DRUG: Nominations for Independent Assessment Committee GAVI/AMC
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-Druggers,

The Advance Market Commitment (AMC) is an innovative global effort to develop vaccines that will benefit the world's poorest people. In February 2007 a pneumococcal AMC was launched. The cornerstone of the AMC is the Independent Assessment Committee (IAC), the principal decision-making group whose key responsibilities are to review and approve the eligibility criteria for a pneumococcal vaccine, monitor AMC progress and assess vaccine candidates.

The GAVI Alliance Secretariat, in its role as AMC Secretariat, had solicited proposals for nominations to the Independent Assessment Committee (IAC). All members must be acknowledged experts with an outstanding record of achievement in their own field and an understanding of the issues covered by the committee. Currently, the call for nominations has been extended until 31 October 2007 to expand the pool of candidates with the following expertise.

* Vaccine business development: Background in industrial scale vaccine production, financing, scale up, technology transfer, presentation and packaging.

* Contract law: A legal background and experience in vaccine research and/or supply agreements and an understanding of manufacturing and distribution processes.

* Clinical performance and delivery systems: Extensive developing country experience in relation to paediatric vaccine delivery, including logistic and operational issues, new vaccine introduction decision making, programmatic planning and impact monitoring.

Nominations from all regions of the world are welcome; they will be reviewed and selected on the basis of their qualifications and their ability to contribute to the desired balance of expertise of the Committee. The AMC Secretariat will support the IAC nomination process, and the appointment of IAC members will be made by the IAC Selection Panel. Further details and instructions for nominations are included in the enclosed documents.

Please submit your nomination, along with a letter and curriculum vitae via email to the IAC Selection Panel at IAC@gavialliance.org with the heading NOMINATION FOR AMC IAC. The closing date for the receipt of all nominations has been extended to 31 October 2007.

Best regards,

Catherine
