In Health Care Projects in Africa and Latin America action medeor seeks to improve in co-operation with local partners the situation of poor people by improving health services and providing training and prevention. medeor offers pharmaceutical advice and technology transfer for improved access to medicine. medeor supports health posts in developing countries with medical aid and provides Humanitarian Aid in emergency situations.

To coordinate a pharmaceutical development project in Arusha, Tanzania, action medeor looks for a

Project Manager Start: 01.10.2007

who will be responsible for the local activities of the project to implement a new production line for anti-retroviral drugs. The proposed core activities involve sustainable technology transfer under support of pharmaceutical experts, organization of training in the fields of drug manufacturing, intellectual property rights and distribution. The aim of the project is to provide sustainable access to locally produced high-quality ARV for AIDS patients. Duration of project: till 2010.

Position description:

* Responsible for planning and coordinating all project activities in cooperation with the Project Coordinator (HQ) including guidance and supervision of personnel
* Supervision of all planning and construction activities in order to ensure the quality and the timely completion of the work
* Supervise all the necessary steps for the implementation of production
* Plan and implement internal and external training activities in the fields of drug manufacturing, intellectual property rights and distribution
* Responsible for the project logistics - including procurement, transport, stock and inventory control of materials and equipment - assuring donor procedures
* Responsible for the administrative aspects and procedures including the management of cash for materials and for the budget and the accountability
* Co-ordination and networking with local authorities, partners, NGOs and donors on local level

Skills and competences

* University degree and sound project management experience concerning construction and development projects (preferably incl. EC funded projects); pharmaceutical expertise is an asset
* Furthermore practical expertise in the administrative and logistics field gathered in Africa
* Training skills (capacity building)
* Physical and mental strength, sensitivity for other cultures
* Diplomatic and negotiation skills; Excellent team player and mediator
* Fully computer literate (MS office, internet, accounting program)

English fluent; (Suaheli is an asset)
