E-DRUG: Health technologies for appropriate use of medicines
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear e-druggers

I would like to hear comments from e-druggers on how they are ensuring appropriate use of medicines that require other devices/technologies to facilitate delivery of the desired doses. These
include inhalers, nebules, drugs that require infusion pumps, etc.

Often, the cost of these devices are not factored in medicine budgets and they are very
costly to patients.

As an example, Kenyatta National Hospital has devised the use of empty 500ml plastic mineral water bottles as "spacers" for delivery of medicines from MDI inhalers to children. These bottles are modified to enable the inhaler mouth to fit on the bottom end of the bottle and the
patient inhales from the top end (bottle mouth).
