E-DRUG: Source of generic ivermectin? (9)
----------------------------------------------

I would like to clarify the subject of price and availability of Ivermectin Tablets in Australia following my first call for information on a "generic" (cheaper) form for the treatment of Strongyloidiasis in Aboriginal people living in "third world" conditions in remote parts of the country.

The Australian Government does fund the supply of Ivermectin Tablets at a cost of $2.17 (AUSD) per milligram. The veterinary products are as low as 12 cents a milligram.

Whilst the bureaucrats may readily say that the drug is free to Aboriginal people in remote areas it may be a different story if people were being treated as part of a National Eradication Program which is what is needed.

If a cheaper form of Ivermectin Tablet is available I would like to know about it so if such a program does happen it will cost the Australian taxpayer less money. I am aware of the regulatory controls that would be needed if it was manufactured by another manufacturer to Merck Sharpe and Dohme. Merck now has the product registered for use in Strongyloides only - not scabies or head lice and at $29 for four 3mgm tablets.

Thank you
