IDA Solutions and collaborating Partners are announcing the roll-out of:
Lusophone Course in Supply Chain Management of HIV and AIDS Medicines & Supplies

The final date of this course and following courses will be communicated later to candidates that have expressed their interest to participate.

Background

ARV Access for Africa (AA4A), a division of IDA Solutions has successfully organized six sessions of the course in Supply Chain Management of HIV and AIDS Medicines & Supplies course in South Africa since February 2005. The Course exposes participants to issues specific to planning the procurement and distribution of ARVs. It provides program managers with skills in program planning and management and teaches how to apply those skills in their own country. The course provides practical tools to decision makers in essential drugs programs to improve their level of performance, and serves to exchange views and experiences between senior decision-makers.

In the course of 2006 IDA Solutions has started to develop for The Royal Netherlands Embassy in South Africa a course for Lusophone countries in Southern Africa. A course translated into Portuguese and adapted to the specific situations and needs of Lusophone Africa serves to develop further the much needed supply chain management skills of program managers in Lusophone Africa.

Audience

The audience of the course ideally consists of a small selected group of Lusophone participants from ARV delivery programs. This includes ARV program managers, physicians, pharmacists, health systems managers, procurement and distribution managers and anyone who is responsible for planning an ARV delivery program. The main target group is in Lusophone Southern Africa i.e. Angola and Mozambique, but we also hope to welcome participants from Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, São Tomé & Príncipe and Portugal.

Location & Duration

We plan on organizing the course in South Africa at the same venue we use for our Anglophone training. Another option would be to organize the course in a Lusophone Southern African country, this will depend on the needs of the applicants. The standard course will last two weeks. A visit to a local HIV/AIDS clinic or program will be part of the training. A tailor-made course containing a smaller number of modules is a possibility as well. This will also depend on the needs of the participants.

Course Fees and Costs

The total fee of approximately 3.500 Euros includes:

* Tuition fee (including course materials)
* Transfer to/from O.R. Tambo International Airport
* Hotel accommodation for the duration of the course (single occupancy): three meals a day including the weekend meals at the hotel
* Coffee and tea during course breaks

Participants are expected to secure their own funding for the course fee and transport (international flights) to and from O.R. Tambo International Airport. To obtain the necessary funding, applicants should contact government or non-government agencies in their countries.
