E-DRUG: Doxycycline induced oesophagitis (5)
--------------------------------------------------------------

I have always raised my concern about the fact that some malaria treatment guidelines indicate that Doxycycline as capsules or tablets can be administered to children over 8 years in halves and quarters. This means that the oesophagus will be directly exposed to either the powder from the capsule (Opened and divided into portions) or a split tablet. I have yet to see any case, perhaps because the usage is low, but the recommendation is in guidelines.

[Does this mean also, that you and your staff are careful to explain that the medication must be taken with food and don't lie down for half an hour after taking it? BS]
