E-DRUG: Creating off-label uses? (2)
------------------------------------

dear E-druggers,

In response to Don Light's question on off-label drug use. We will be
using Thomas Moore's "Deadly Medicine" published in 1995 by Simon &
Shuster as the basis for an elective course for pharmacy students in the
politics of pharmaceuticals.

This book carefully documents the politics behind the development of the anti-arrhythmics Tambocor and Enkaid to treat benign ventricular contractions, an off-label use, and the subsequent early termination of the Cardia Arrhythmia Suppression Trial (CAST) in the late 1980s due to excess deaths in the active treatment group.

Best regards,

Larry
