E-DRUG: Indian Drug Regulation: Light at the End of the Tunnel in 2012? (2)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Wilbert ,
Thanks .
Two more things have happened
1 Mashelkar Committee on Patentability
2 Announcement by OPPI ie Organization of Pharmaceutical s Producers of India of a voluntary code curtailing free jaunts, shopping & entertainment of doctors . This is apparently in keeping with the IFPMA Code .
The timing of the announcement is strategic Firstly The Indian Drug Policy is supposed to be announced . There has been criticism about the increasing drug prices, with consumers having to pay for for all these gifts & promotional Activities .
Secondly it is the RATIONAL DRUG USE RESOLUTION that is on the agenda of the WHO G. B . in Geneva
A question that needs answering is what has been the level of effectiveness of implementation of the IFPMA CODE & the Action taken against violators . Do you have information on this ? maybe Barbara Mintez has some ?
As Chairperson of the task force on Consumer Education on Safety of Food & Medicine I would like to follow this up & also in Rational Use of Drugs Resolution Effort
regards
Mira Shiva
