E-DRUG: Abandoned essential medicines (8)
---------------------------------------

Dear e-drug readers,

The e-drug correspondence on abandoned essential medicines has begun
to identify a number of products that the market has failed. E-drug
readers are still sending in their examples; when the moderators
close down the correspondence I will summarise the messages you have sent.

Meanwhile, you will be interested to read a recent WHO press release
that closely relates to this issue: rapidly disappearing stocks of
therapeutic sera. WHO should be congratulated on drawing to
attention the fact that so many people are killed and/or permanently
disabled as a result of the disappearance of snake-bite anti-venom
and rabies products, and should be supported in its intention to
develop a plan to improve supplies.
