The figure of 80,000 (60,000 is probably more
correct)  refers to all brands of the same molecules and
fixed-dose combinations. Since there are over 20,000
pharmaceutical manufacturers in India, the figure is
not that high as it looks.

The number of molecules that are used to manufacture
so many brands is less than 600.
