The Institute for Health Law Studies is pleased to announce its
upcoming health policy conference: "INTERNATIONAL DRUG IMPORTATION:
ISSUES IN PUBLIC POLICY, PATIENT SAFETY, AND THE PUBLIC HEALTH." at
the Shelter Pointe Hotel, San Diego, CA from June 3-4, 2005
One of the most pressing policy issues today is access to safe and
affordable medicines. International drug importation has been
proposed as a solution to address this policy goal. Yet a plethora of
policy, safety, and public health concerns all impact if and how
importation could be a viable alternative for effective patient
access to medications. Few of these concerns have been discussed
together by stakeholders within the same forum. In response to this
critical need, the Institute of Health Law Studies is pleased to
convene the Health Policy Conference, "International Drug
Importation: Issues in Public Policy, Patient Safety, and the Public
Health", which will bring these stakeholder groups together to
discuss the public policy, health, and safety issues surrounding drug
importation. The goal is an informed debate through education and
discussion by leading medical, legal, policy, safety, and consumer
experts in the field.
This program will bring together national representatives of
stakeholder groups, including the medical, legal, industry, safety,
policy, and consumer communities. Confirmed speakers of special
interest include David Lee, counsel and therapeutic liason branch
Health Canada, Aaron Graham of Purdue Pharma and former Drug
Enforcement Agency Senior Special Agent, Scott McKibbin, Speical
Advocate for Prescrition Drugs, Illinois Governor's Office who began
the Canadian drug purchase program for state employees, Edward
Langston, American Medical Association Trustee who is both a
physician and a pharmacist, and U.S. Attorney Carolyn Lam, who
successfully prosecuted the case of a counterfeiter who was smuggling
fakes into the U.S.
For attendees, the registration fee is only $125. Sponsorship
opportunities are available from $1,000-$20,000. Online registration,
full speaker list, and hotel discount information is available at:
