E-DRUG: rofecoxib ban in India (4)
----------------------------------

Dear friends,

I am posting this message in response to the comment posted by Dr. Anupam
Agrawal.

His comment seems to be the "sad but true" factor that is affecting the
health care system not only of India but of this entire region, including Nepal, which drugs from India are imported.

I would like to repeat his statement "DOES BANNING OF DRUGS HAS ANY MEANING
IN INDIA?"

>From my side, I would like to moderate the statement slightly and state
"DOES BANNING OF DRUGS HAS ANY MEANING IN SOUTH ASIA?"

The corrupt health care system and the vested interest of a large number of
health care professionals leaves the entire drug regulation as an example of mockery, that is manipulated and used on a prn basis.

The drug mentioned here, "Refecoxib", thought not even registered in Nepal
is freely prescribed and available, giving rise to a good business to a good number of chain of people with vested interest.

A certain group of medical representatives promote, a certain group of
prescribers prescribe, a certain group of chemists dispense, and whoever should be controlling this remains silent as nobody is complaining.

Let us look at all these factors from practical perspective and let us all
try to work together to improve the professional ethics in our region otherwise banning of any drugs wont mean anything at all.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

Eurek Ranjit,
