E-drug: Promoting Rational Drug Use Course in the Community (PRDUC)
---------------------------------------------
To all E-Druggers
I am writing to update you on developments related to support for the
Promoting Rational Drug Use Course in the Community (PRDUC) which will be
held in Pretoria in early September 2004.
We will be able to provide scholarships for a number of participants for
this course from African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Ideally, we would
like these scholarships to be used for tuition fees and accomodation so if
you can find ways to get transport covered this would be very good. All
applications for attendence at the course and for the scholarships should go
to the organizers at the University of Amsterdam. You can obtain application
forms and course information from the course organizers at prduc@pscw.uva.nl
. We encourage group applications as we hope to have follow up activities.
Secondly we will be able to provide support follow up activities in three
countries. This will include both financial and technical assistance. The
technical assistance will be provided by staff at the University of
Amsterdam who will also administer the funds. What this means is that for
three countries at least the course will not end with the presentation of
certificates. After the course participants will return home to develop a
detailed proposal/activity plan. Staff from University of Amsterdam are
likely to visit to help with this phase. Then the three best proposals will
be funded and the University of Amsterdam staff will continue to provide
support. This may be by e-mail, fax, telephone or country visits. When it
comes to the phase of data analysis and report writing we would expect the
University of Amsterdam staff to assist. So our hope is that these three
projects will produce really useful reports and possibly a WHO publication
on topics such as ARV adherence, stigma and drug use, factors faciliating
adherence etc. We will not have the PRDUC course in 2005 so that we can
devote all of our efforts to follow up project activities.
There is only a short time to submit applications so please could I
encourage applications to be submitted soon. The closing date is 16th July
2004. We would welcome applications from planning units, NGOs, pharmacy
schools etc.
Thank you,
Richard Laing
