E-drug: Worries about acceptance of MMR (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately we cannot help Dr Copp source mumps monovalent
vaccine from Australia. Here in Australia we only have available two
different types of combined MMR vaccine, and one of monovalent
rubella vaccine. There is no monovalent measles or mumps vaccine
registered for use in Australia.

The Australian Department of Health have been monitoring the
situation in the UK, with regards to falling MMR immunisation rates
and the chance for breakout disease. We are luckier in Australia in
that the studies conducted in London, while making the press here
and concerning some parents, do not seem to have seriously
adversely affected our MMR immunisation rates. As at 30 June 2003,
94.1% of children born between 1 January 2001 and 31 March 2001
had been vaccinated with one dose of MMR vaccine.

The Australian National Centre for Immunisation Research and
Surveillance (NCIRS)is used to support the use of MMR for parents
who are unsure about the evidence:
http://www.ncirs.usyd.edu.au/facts/f-mmr.html . We send this
factsheet to any parent who writes in with concerns about MMR and
autism or inflammatory bowel disease.
