E-drug: Sources and prices of HIV/AIDS medicines (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This document is very useful. I stand to be corrected, but after going
through the list of 74 drug molecules, I note that 23 of them (31%) are
not listed in the WHO model formulary 2002 (unless there is a more
updated list). If a drug molecule appears in this price indicator guide,
the likely logical conclusion would be that it is on the essential drug
list. For example, this document lists 4 antivirals namely, Aciclovir,
Famciclovir, Ganciclovir, Valgancicolvir. Why? It also has
Clarithromycin which is known to have drug interactions with Protease
inhibitors and Non Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase inhibitors. Is
Cefixime (4th generation Cephalosporin) specifically indicated for
Opportunistic infection in HIV?

Without too much talk, I would suggest that these documents be
harmonized.
