E-drug: Saline Solution (0.9%) versus Ringer's lactate
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers:

The compound solution Lactate (Hartmann's Solution) is
traditionally preferred for the treatment of hypovolemic shock, but
we haven't found the evidence that there is a real clinical difference
in efficacy and security between Ringer's lactate solution and Saline
Solution (0.9% NaCL) for that indication.

Because of the very low budget for medicinal drugs in our country,
we are asking ourselves if we could select only one of the two
solutions to treat hypovolemic shock (caused by bleeding,
dehydration or increased capillary permeability). Using only one
solution would have the advantage that procurement volumes are
higher and better price can be obtained.

We would appreciate additional evidence and comments on this
topic to help us in making a decision.
